Dear Friends,
The time has come for each of us to act with recognition of both our abundant blessings, Baruch Hashem, and our urgent responsibility to relieve the suffering of our brothers and sisters.
I remind you of the Maos Chitim campaign we began this morning, and the desperate straits in which our neighbors find themselves. As I pointed out this morning, I am fully aware that the economic crisis continues to bear down on us, and has left so many of us in a weaker financial position to be generous this year. But of course, that same crisis has more of our neighbors in need, and their financial worries are more intense than before. We therefore have no choice but to give with strength, even though it may strain us a bit more.
The funds raised in our tzedaka initiative are devoted exclusively to bringing relief to financially needy families in our community. These funds do not travel far to bring critical relief to struggling families, and they are concurrently blended with the earnest efforts of many volunteers to help these families establish their independence.
More than ever, these needy families are our neighbors: their children are our children's classmates, they daven in our shuls and they live on our blocks. How could we not do our utmost to ease their burdens? How can we expect to sit down joyously at our Seder without insuring that all the Jewish families in our community are cared for?
Every dollar collected in our annual Maos Chitim campaign will be distributed under the personal supervision of the gabbaii tzeadakah and me. Of course, should you know of someone in need, please let one of us know.
We know that the needs of those single mothers, working poor, mechanchim and others continue throughout the year, and we use this Maos Chitim campaign as a springboard for chesed all year long, but this is our only formal campaign.
Please respond generously by sending your checks, payable to "Congregation Tifereth Zvi - Chesed", and delivering them to my attention, either by mail to the shul, or by hand.
In the zechus of sharing our brachos, may Hashem grant us good health, success and wisdom, and opportunities to perform even more chasadim. And just as we take care of Hakadosh Baruch Hu's children, so may he care for all of our children.
Thank you.
Very truly yours,
Pinchas Chatzinoff
