Ask the Rabbi - Dropped Tefillin

Q: I dropped my tefiilin today. Please tell me what I should do? I do not want any lenienceis. Thank you.

A: If you dropped your unwrapped tefillin onto a bare floor or the ground, you should accept upon yourself a fast day, by pledging to fast at Mincha the afternoon preceding the day you wish to fast. If you dropped tefillin in the bag on a carpeted floor or table, you should be more careful. Any other combination (unwrapped tefillin onto carpet; wrapped tefillin onto floor; etc.) you should give tzedakah ($18 is fine).

Morning Minyan Crisis

Dear Friends,

Our kehillah began its weekday Morning Minyan on Sukkos, and Baruch Hashem we have not missed Tefillah BeTzibbur even once since we began this effort.  Now, nearly eight months later, the Morning Minyan -- and the Torah study (mishnayos and halachah) which follow -- are not an experiment; they are part of our Shul, and provide a daily morning vehicle for our communal avodas Hashem.

We as a kehillah owe a great debt of gratitude to those who have devoted themselves so completely to our Minyan, and the fact that anyone who has attended the Minyan knows well the identity of these devoted souls is a testament to the vitality of these masmidim and the great degree to which our Shul depends upon them.  Yet, as the very fundamental of a Minyan suggests, they cannot do it alone.  These past two weeks, we have veered dangerously close to missing Tefllah BeTzibbur, and we have watched many mornings as Hashem has sent us an unexpected tenth (or eighth, ninth and tenth) man.

The time has come for you to make a serious effort to support this Minyan.  If you are an occasional attendee, please try to come more often.  If you are attending a later Minyan, see if you can do what many of us do, and rearrange your schedule to support your kehillah and your friends.  If you are missing Tefillah BeTzibbur, then this is an opportunity to maximize your achievement: come to a minyan, help your friends and solidify the minyan, and perhaps even stay to learn a bit or grab a cup of coffee and breakfast.  If you are a married woman, see if you can encourage your husband to attend.  Inconvenience is not an obstacle in the face of determination.

There is no other Minyan in the neighborhood that will appreciate you more than we will. . .  Mondays and Thursdays @ 6:50 a.m.,  other weekdays @ 7:00 a.m.

We need you.

Thank you.

An Important Note From Our Friends at Priority-1

An Important Note From Our Friends at Priority-1

Dear Friend,

As you may know, our 22nd Anniversary Dinner is rapidly approaching. It will take place on June 17th at the Lawrence Country Club.

This year we are celebrating the accomplishments of our Torah Institutions: Yeshiva Zichron Aryeh, Kollel Ner Yehoshua, Yeshiva Ohr HaTzafon and Mesivta Yam HaTorah. Each of them fill a unique role in the yeshiva world and has had a major impact on their students.

Please join us as we pay tribute to their achievements and the devoted people who make them possible.

Our annual dinner campaign is our primary fundraising drive for the year and provides a large percentage of the funds that we need to continue our important programs.

A generous benefactor has pledged to double all contributions to this campaign and triple all new or increased donations from last year's campaign.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for our organization and a great chance for you to maximize the impact of your precious Tzedakah dollars.

Please contribute today to this unprecedented fundraising campaign.
Thank you,
Priority-1 Staff
