Bar Mitzvah Chesed Project

Dear Friends,

One of the boys of our Kehillah, Sam Cohen, will b'ezras Hashem be celebrating his Bar Mitzvah in a few months, and has undertaken a special chesed project in connection with reaching ol mitzvos.  Sam's letter to you appears below, and an associated flyer is attached.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends and Family,

As most of you know, I spent last year living in Israel.  While I was there, I met many young men and women who serve in the IDF and work hard to protect and defend Israel.  As my Bar Mitzvah approaches, I decided that I want to do something special for these soldiers.  I not only want to let them know how much we appreciate their commitment to protecting Eretz Yisrael, but I also want to help them in a meaningful way.

Therefore, I have decided to team up with One Israel Fund and join their "shluker campaign" (pronounced SHLOO-ker).  A shluker (not only a fun word to say!) is a water pack that soldiers carry on their backs giving them water when they fight for Israel.  As we are approaching the hot summer months, the need for shlukers is becoming increasingly important.

For my Bar Mitzvah, I am asking you, my friends and family to help me with this project.  One shluker for a soldier costs only $36.  If each of you is willing to donate just a small amount, with your help we can provide shlukers for an entire unit of soldiers going into battle.  Of course, any amount that you can give is a wonderful expression of thanks to our brave Chayalim.

I will be going to Israel on April 2nd, and will personally deliver the shlukers to Israeli soldiers.  If you are able to help, please send or deliver checks made payable to One Israel Fund to:

Sam Cohen

10 Prospect Ave.

Woodmere, NY  11598

You can also include a note with your name and email address so the soldiers will know exactly who donated this most needed gift.  Sometimes, the soldiers even email back a personal thank-you!

Thank you in advance for participating with me in this important campaign in honor of my Bar Mitzvah.  This gift to the chayalim is both a thank you from those they protect and an acknowledgement of what they endure in their daily mission defending Am Yisrael.

Sincerely,

Sam Cohen

P.S.  See the attached flyer for more info about the Shluker Campaign…
