Dear Friends,

 

A few important points to keep in mind as we prepare for Parshas Zachor and Purim:

 

1)      Hearing the layning of Parshas Zachor is a Torah obligation for men and women.  To accommodate women, we will have a second reading of Parshas Zachor on Shabbos morning, immediately after Adon Olam following Mussaf.

 

2)      On Sunday, we need volunteers to deliver "Tomchei Shabbos" packages to needy families.  Please contact Naftali Bennett at jb@plholdings.com as soon as possible if you can volunteer a little time.

 

3)      Hearing Megillah Reading is incumbent equally upon men and women.  Kindly consult the Purim schedule (attached again for your convenience) for alternate times when Megillah will be read at night and by day on Purim.

 

4)      Please note on the Taanis Esther and Purim schedule of tefillos (attached) that we will seize the opportunity to daven Shacharis on Purim day at the optimal "es ratzon" (auspicious time) of the year, k'vasikin, beginning at 6:50 a.m.  

 

5)      We are better served in minimizing our Mishloach Manos in size and number (the minimum for each person performing the mitzvah being two items to one recipient) and instead increasing our Matanos La'Evyonim (charity to the needy).   If you need assistance in performing Matanos La'Evyonim, kindly contact me well before Purim day.

 

6)      Please be machmir in exercising caution and discretion in making merry throughout Purim.  We must strengthen the community's awareness of the spiritual beauty of this joyous chag, and never ch"v compromise our safety or kavod haTorah.  Please be exceptionally careful in driving, and please watch out for the welfare of others, especially young people. 

 

7)      Men of all ages are invited to the annual Purim Tisch at my home on Tuesday evening, beginning with Maariv at 8:45 PM.

I wish to close with a personal expression of hakaras hatov to the magnanimous hosts of our upcoming Melave Malka, Mr.& Mrs. Daniel Dubin, and to the event's tireless chairman Yehudah Eisenberg, all of whom have worked intensely and devotedly to make this Motzei Shabbos' Melave Malka a success.  I look forward to greeting all of you then.

JEP Shabbaton Reminder

REMINDER:
Our Shul will be hosting the girls' division of a JEP-LI Shabbaton on Shabbos Parshas Vayakhel-Pekudei (HaChodesh), March 20-21.  Our guests will be girls ages 9-13, and their supervisors.  We will each have an opportunity to assist in the kiruv rechokim efforts of JEP during the Shabbos.

 

If you would like to host a couple of the girls and a supervisor at your home (for sleeping, and perhaps a meal), kindly contact mirel@jepli.org.
