Establishment Update
Catering by JJ – Please be aware that Catering by JJ (located in Far Rockaway) is no longer under the VAAD Hakashrus.
Get Healthy America - Get Healthy America, located at 114 Cedarhurst Ave in Cedarhurst, is no longer open for business.
Sunflower Café –Sunflower Cafe is scheduled to open on Sunday March 15.
Pesach Update
The following supermarkets will be kashered in the upcoming weeks and their takeout departments will be open for Pesach takeout: Brach's, Gourmet Glatt, Glatt Kosher Kingdom, Supersol.
Additionally, the following establishments will be kashered prior to Pesach: Chap-a-Nosh, Chosen Island, K-Roasters, King David, Mauzone, and Woodmere Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Raisin Update
After in-depth investigation and numerous meetings with the national and local hashgachos, including our VAAD, the consensus was to allow raisins to be used in the stores and sold in supermarkets. This psak was based on the Taz (Yoreh Deah 84:12) who discussed a similar situation and was matir based on a sfeik sfeikah. Therefore, raisins stored in normal conditions would not pose a halachic problem.
Kashrus Alerts
Osem Meals-on-the-Go – This product is under the OU and may contain traces of dairy ingredients. They were recently withdrawn from the supermarkets. However, this product is halachically pareve.
Skittles Candy Fan - This product contains an unauthorized OU-D. Corrective measures are being taken.
Hawaiian Punch – A limited number of the Hawaiian Punch product line is certified by the cRc of Chicago. Some bottles might also have the Chaf-K symbol. However, there are sizes that are kosher which are bottled in facilities not under the cRc and do not bear their symbol and only have a generic "K". The following is a list of certified product sizes and flavors: 12 oz. cans and the 20 oz, 24 oz., and 2 liter bottles: Berry Blue, Berry Lime Blast, Bodacious Berry, Fruit Juicy Red, Grape, Green Berry Rush, Island Citrus Guava, Lemonade, Lemon Berry Squeeze, Mango Passion Fruit Squeeze, Mazin Melon, Orange, Strawberry, and Wild Purple Smash.
